How Many of Me?

"How many people share your name? Enter it and find out how many of you there are."

...apparently there are 5 other people with the strangely misspelled first name of matheau combined with the last name of moore - do you think that's really possible? my sister suggested my spelling to my mother as something cool and french - of course the french spelling would be mathieu, but alas...

(update - well, this could explain the results : "The estimates for one or both names are not absolute. There may be fewer people with this name, or none at all" - from the site's disclaimer section, which kinda makes the site useless really)

stories like this are almost always urban legends

9/01/2008

but i got this one from a friend of mine and when i checked it out on www.snopes.com (Urban Legends Reference Pages 1995-2008) it was true. http://www.snopes.com/glurge/abbey.asp

"After four-year old Meredith was deeply upset by the death of Abbey, her family's fourteen-year old dog, her parents suggested she write a letter to God.

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith

When Meredith asked her mom if God had received the letter, all she could say was yes. But then, days later, a package wrapped in gold paper arrived on the family's step. Inside was a copy of the book When A Pet Dies by Mr. Rogers (I know!).

Attached was a letter that read as follows:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am wherever there is love.

Love, God"
